The big difference between Stalock & Nemo is that Stalock plays the puck infinitely better & you can really see the effect it has on the transition game from one end of the ice to the other...

Good assessment of the sitch tho, dude. Thanks.

I'm ready for change. For me Nemo has played ok. I wouldn't say its Nemo's fault that we didn't go deep in the playoffs but he didn't steal any of those games either. I don't want to say Nemo is a bad goalie at all but he isn't the stud that can carry a team. He looked fantastic with the Blackhawks but really the D men kept the play in an area the Nemo was strong at defending. The Sharks don't have that caliber of defense.

I do wish Nemo would have been traded away for a cheaper goalie. For his salary to performance Nemo isn't worth it.

This 100 times over. Stalock is one of the best goaltenders at playing the puck and Niemi is damn bear the worst. Having goalie that can play the puck can help with the break out which is good for our young defense, our posetion puck moving style, and most of all if Stalock can just clear the zone, it creates less shot opportunities against. As opposed to Niemi who is a rebound disaster and let's the play linger the sharks defensive zone.

Does Stalock communicate with the defense better if he can't see the puck (for example when being screened)? Niemi frequently loses sight of the puck but doesn't seem to let the D know it so they can clear things out for him.

Niemi is not a good goalie at all. Ryan Miller would have been a better choice to bring in, then just dump Niemi.

I think Stalock is the better goalie. Obviously he needs to prove he can endure a full season as starter. I never saw Niemi as a starting goaltender. I will always remember Finals VS Philly. Basically Leighton sucked more than Niemi but Wow the goaltending that series was horrible. If both teams did not have outstanding Defence, they would have never made the finals.

Niemi Played 63 Won 39 (3rd) GAA 2.39 (29th) sv% .913 (44th)

Miller Played 59 Won 25 (18th) GAA 2.64 (48th) Sv % .918 (35th)

The comparison of the two suggests otherwise. Miller has a slightly better save % but the GAA gap is a good bit in Neimis favor and the games won. The price we would have to pay miller would make his performance to dollar ratio much worse than Niemi. So if Neimi is not good at all you have to put Miller in as not good at all also.

Their play off numbers give Miller a little bit better numbers than Niemi however neither of them stole a game.

For what Miller got maybe it wasn't worth it for the price. But is it fair to compare the two when Miller played for the lowly Sabres for 40 games, then 20 with the Blues. Though he did put up better numbers with the Sabres.

Wonder if Miller woulda put up different numbers if he was playing for the Sharks all year.

Miller played most of the season with the awful Sabres and Niemi put up similar numbers with a top ranked San Jose team. Then, midseason Miller switches teams which can really mess up a goalie's head. I bet Miller would have done better if he was with the Sharks the whole year.

Good, he deserves to. Antti Niemi is the worst goaltender the franchise has ever had.
